Why Hephaestus?
Our name is inspired by the Greek God of the Forge, Hephaestus. As the God of fire, he is the god of blacksmiths. He forged the weapons and armor for all the other Greek gods.
About the craftsman
Boone Turnbauer
I started training as a blacksmith in 2014. I recieved my welding certification from Questa College in San Luis Obispo in 2016. Previously, I worked at Thiessen Design, a high-end architectural fabrication shop in San Luis Obispo. After moving to Oregon, I began making custom pieces in my shop at home. Over the years my business has grown and is now my full-time vocation.

I have a passion for restorimg old tools, ones made with a quality that isn’t widely practiced anymore. I enjoy restoration because I’m believe in repairing and reusing as opposed to discarding and disposing. Plus, giving an old tool a new life is rewarding.
Many people inherit old tools. Some of them have become family heirlooms that need a little TLC. If you have high-quality tools sitting in your barn, shed, or garage, I can restore them to their former glory, making them useful again.
